PRACTICAL GUIDE · COLOMBIAN SHAPEWEAR
Where to buy original Colombian shapewear in Los Angeles
What to check before you pay, how to tell original Colombian shapewear from a copy, and how to get it in Los Angeles without sizing surprises.
Los Angeles has plenty of shapewear for sale and very little clear information. This guide is what we explain on WhatsApp to customers who write to us before buying.
First: what “Colombian” means
Colombian shapewear isn’t a brand, it’s a garment-making tradition. What sets it apart is the construction: compression panels sewn by zone instead of a single stretch fabric, flat seams that don’t show under clothes, and powernet or technical fabrics that hold you in without cutting off circulation.
A single layer of stretch fabric squeezes, but it doesn’t shape. You notice it after twenty minutes: it rides up, rolls at the waist and leaves marks.
How to tell an original from a copy
- Look at the seams on the inside. They should be flat, with no loose threads. A thick seam will show under a dress.
- Check the hooks. On styles with a front closure, the hooks should come in several rows so you can adjust as your measurements change, and they should be reinforced with tape.
- Stretch the abdomen panel. It should spring back right away. If it stays stretched out, the compression will only last a few washes.
- Be wary of one size fits all. Shapewear that claims to fit S to XL isn’t shaping anyone.
Size is where almost everyone gets it wrong
Your jeans size isn’t a reliable reference. Two garments with the same label can have different measurements. The only thing that works is measuring your waist and hips with a flexible tape, without sucking in and without pulling it tight.
If your waist and hips fall into different sizes, go with the larger one. Shapewear that’s too small doesn’t compress more: it rolls, leaves marks and stops working.
It’s the one step you can’t undo later. Shapewear is intimate apparel, and sales are final for size or fit.
See the size guideBuying in a store or online
In a physical store you won’t be able to try shapewear on: for hygiene reasons, almost none allow it with intimate apparel. So the real advantage of going in person is smaller than it seems, and you still depend on your measurements.
Buying online with guidance works the same way, but with more information: photos of the garment being worn, a size chart and someone who reviews your numbers with you before you order.
